Our Classroom RulesThe picture below shows our classroom rules. We will spend the first few weeks of school getting to know the rules and why they are good for our learning community.
Water for LearningHydration is one of the best ways to prepare the brain for learning.
Children will achieve more when both their health and learning needs are met. Ensuring free access to water and promoting a regular water intake throughout the school day is a vital role for schools in promoting health and providing a healthy learning environment If your child would like to bring in a personal water bottle, to stay hydrated, feel free to send one. It's important that this NOT be filled with juices, only water (especially in case of spills). Please be sure to label the water bottle clearly with your child's name. |
Classroom Information HandbookHere is a link to access our Classroom Information Handbook. This is a quick snapshot of tidbits and information to help you and your child navigate the first day of Kindergarten (and beyond)!
Our Classroom Clip ChartThe Clip Chart is how we will keep track of learning choices in our classroom. Every child will start the day with their clip on the GREEN "Ready to Learn". When students exhibit positive behavior, they may be asked "clip up" which means they will move their clip up one level on the chart. It's our goal to focus on the positive behavior that is expected for students to make a great learning environment.
We want to celebrate those children who get green, blue, purple or pink each day. Watch the parent communication folder to reinforce your child's choices in class. They will color the calendar square with the color that corresponds with their clip placement. If a student is having trouble following a rule, I will give one warning. If the rule continues to be broken after that, I will ask him to "clip down". Any child can move his or her clip up or down throughout the day. This allows them to know that breaking a rule should not ruin the whole day. Any child who ends up with a clip on the last two sections of the chart will fill out an "Oops Note" which will tell the choice they made and the one that would have been better. This will be put inside the parent communication folder for you to see. I will also make phone calls for anyone who clips down to the red section of the chart. |

It takes a little time...
It's easy as parents to want our kids to hit the developmental milestones when everyone else's child does. Sometimes it's a matter of time before they actually are ready. This year, we will have many opportunities to learn. And every child will learn and grow in the classroom! It just won't be at the same rate, and maybe not the same way as everyone else does it. Think back on when your child learned to walk. Chances are, you knew someone who had a child the same age that was walking before yours did. Likewise, you may have also known someone who had a child that didn't walk at all yet! Learning, no matter what it is, takes time. You can help your child every day by celebrating all the steps made toward become a better reader, writer, and thinker.
